The Corona relief grant, which the Flemish Government has extended to all companies and shops that have to close as a result of the stricter precautionary measures of the National Security Council, can be applied for via Vlaio as of 27 March 2020.

Entrepreneurs who suffer financial loss can thus recover part of this loss via the premium of € 4,000. If the company or shop still has to remain closed after 5 April as a result of the COVID-19 measures, compensation of € 160 per day is foreseen.

Some of the conditions you should definitely keep in mind are the following:

  • There must be a complete and compulsory closure of the physical facility. Catering establishments that do organise pick-up services are also eligible if the regular dining area has been closed.
  • The company has at least 1 FTE with a full income.
  • Only active enterprises with an active physical establishment in Flanders are eligible.
  • The premium applies per physical establishment (which each employs at least 1 FTE) with a maximum of 5 premiums per enterprise (even if the enterprise has more than 5 establishments).
  • Self-employed persons in a secondary occupation are only eligible if they pay the same social security contributions as a self-employed person in a main occupation (based on the level of income).
  • The corona relief grant falls under the de-minimis scheme.

This relief grant does not apply to companies that close voluntarily. Since 24 March 2020, it has been decided that hairdressers are also obliged to close their business. These entrepreneurs are now also eligible for the corona nuisance premium.
