From fragmentation to flow
A leading water utility faced significant logistical complexity across its network of central warehouses, local depots, project sites, and service vehicles. With materials ranging from pipes to fittings and valves, processes differed widely by location. The company was preparing for deeper collaboration with regional partners and needed to improve efficiency, reduce inventory, and standardize logistics as part of a broader strategic shift. At the same time, a new ERP system was being rolled out, creating both an opportunity and a challenge for operational alignment.
Ambition: Unified logistics, ready for the future
The utility company aimed to streamline material flows, reduce network complexity, and build a harmonized warehouse operations model that could support future joint-venture operations. The ambition included standard warehouse processes, clear material visibility, and an ERP setup that would unify how all warehouses operate, laying the foundation for efficiency, transparency, and scalable growth.
How we helped: Designing smarter warehouse flows and ERP-driven logistics
We conducted a full logistics network review, by redesigning warehouse roles and optimizing the number of depots. Physical warehouse layouts were improved, with clear location labeling standards and location conventions embedded into Microsoft ERP. ABC-based product allocation helped position critical materials closer to demand, as well as taking into account physical product handling requirements. We supported end-to-end ERP enablement: testing, correcting inefficiencies, configuring extensions, and preparing all warehouse teams through hands-on training. Hypercare support ensured a stable and confident go-live.
Results: Standardized operations and a leaner logistics network
The project delivered a streamlined warehouse network with clearer roles and fewer depots. Standardized processes improved efficiency and material visibility across all locations. Warehouse teams gained confidence with the new ERP setup, accelerating adoption and stabilizing operations. The transformation has strengthened the company’s logistics backbone and prepared it for long-term collaboration and future network growth.
