A fragmented inventory approach led to out-of-control working capital
A leading manufacturer of industrial tools, equipment and services launched a working capital improvement initiative to optimize inventory management across its Customer Centers. Despite its scale and ambition, the company lacked a standardized process for inventory review. Data was scattered across multiple ERP systems and a proliferation of spreadsheets, which made coordination among the supply chain stakeholders very challenging.
Ambition: Improve inventory levels through visibility
To unlock working capital and streamline operations, the company set out to establish a structured, data-driven inventory review process.
The goal: improve visibility, reduce obsolete stock and enhance order fulfillment performance - without adding complexity.
How we helped: Turning data into actionable insights
Using the ASCM SCOR model, the most relevant KPIs were defined to align with industry best practices. A comprehensive data analysis led to metrics such as turnover rates, obsolete stock levels and fulfillment times. These insights formed the foundation for an automated, user-friendly inventory review process. To support data-driven decision-making, BI reports were developed using Microsoft Power BI. Supporting materials—including handover documentation and training content—ensured smooth adoption across Customer Centers.
Results: Sustainable gains, Measurable impact
The new process freed up several million euros in working capital across the network. The customer’s supply chain teams now benefit from a maintainable, transparent approach to inventory management, supported by intuitive tools, and shared understanding.
