POM Oost-Vlaanderen’s narrative as a new organisation started back in June 2006, a narrative situated within the parameters of the provincial government’s socio-economic policies. From the outset, the emphasis was on creating scope for sustainable enterprise with a focus on the region’s two main strengths: the logistics sector and the knowledge economy. The ongoing development of East Flanders into a leading logistics and outstanding knowledge region is consequently a key task for POM.
Being a development company, POM Oost-Vlaanderen also has a duty to develop new opportunities. It plays a key role, for example, in the development of more than 40 new business parks such as Tech Lane Ghent, business centres such as iCUBES, initiatives focused on renewable energy such as Cleantech cluster region Ghent and Terranova Solar and biotechnology projects such as Ghent Bio-Economy Valley.
Client requirement
Spurred on by its chairman, Geert Versnick, and the new managing director, Filip Laureyns, POM Oost-Vlaanderen took up the gauntlet in 2016 to review and adapt its range of services and its strategic choices.
Approach
POM Oost-Vlaanderen asked Moore to provide support during the search for a revised mission and new successful strategic choices. Following in-depth analyses of the range of services on offer and interactive sessions with all employees, the ambitions for each of the 4 work areas were determined and then translated into strategic (long term) and operational (short term) goals.
A review of these proposals with external stakeholders provided additional input for the final strategic plan and for increased participation. We also jointly developed a monitoring system to check progress via easily quantifiable performance indicators.
Results
10 years of POM Oost-Vlaanderen was a cause for celebration at the end of 2016! The new ambition, baseline and projects & goals for the next few years were widely communicated. Employees are delighted with the instantly recognizable objectives and their input and commitment inspires other partners in the many projects POM Oost-Vlaanderen is involved in.
