KMSKA

Customer case

Sector: Culture

The Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen (Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp), or KMSKA for short, is currently undergoing major renovation and restoration. In addition to being a highly respected scientific institution, KMSKA aims to be a 21st-century interactive museum. The team took this opportunity to renew its internal organisation in line with this objective.

Customer demand

Whilst the KMSKA museum building is a temporary building site due to this large scale restoration work, major efforts are underway behind the scenes to adapt the organisation to a new chapter.

The renewal process is approached from two different angles. On the one hand, the development of the organisation into an externally independent agency, operating as a non-profit organisation. On the other hand, increasing the organisation’s efficiency with a focus on its reopening. Moore guided the organisation step by step with a view to turning it into a benchmark in its field.

Approach

Using interviews, management documentation and a workshop, the various challenges were initially defined. The organisation’s mission, vision and core values were subsequently determined during a strategic workshop. Strategic goals aimed at turningKMSKA into both a scientific institution and a modern museum were also drawn up.

A specific action plan brought everything to fruition:

  • Clear and interactive internal communications explained the mission, vision, goals and values to the entire organisation. Actively involving the workforce resulted in these values gradually being embraced by all internally.
  • Both the organisational structure and how it could evolve with respect to the reopening of the museum were successfully determined.
  • The various roles and responsibilities of the management team were clearly defined and the consultation structure was adapted accordingly. The focus was also on how to develop as a team and show inspirational leadership.
  • The operational objectives, derived from the strategic objectives, were incorporated into an action plan.
  • A financial plan was worked out, including various different scenarios.

Result

KMSKA’s organisation was coordinated with the museum's ambitions. Everyone is now ready for a grand opening. Thanks to this in-depth approach to various aspects, KMSKA not only has a clear direction, but has also developed into a benchmark in its field, more than able to achieve its future objectives.
