Lorenz holds a degree in Bioscience Engineering and obtained his PhD from KU Leuven in 2023, where he conducted research on microfluidics for biomedical point-of-care applications and biosensors.
He then spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher, further developing the technology and gaining experience in drafting and managing regional innovation grants and European projects (Horizon Europe). In addition, he was involved in a spin-off initiative, where he developed an entrepreneurial mindset with a strong focus on valorisation and business development. Since June 2025, Lorenz has been supporting companies within the MGI team in developing high-quality grant proposals.
