The research institute Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) is a global leader in the field of Supply Chain transformation. The organization is announcing an update of its successful APICS and SCOR training programs in response to developments in the field of Supply Chain management.

Comprehensive upgrade of two key courses

APICS’ well-known Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) course recently benefited from a major update. This was implemented in response to an extensive survey that APICS carries out every four years among its 45.000 members. Based on this survey, the curriculum and ’Body of Knowledge’ of the course have been extensively revised to reflect the most recent developments in the field. The update of the CPIM course also presents the content in a more intuitive format. Strong elements, such as the Manufacturing and Planning Controls (MPC) framework, have been retained as the basic model for Supply Chain planning.

The Supply Chain and Operations Reference (SCOR) Model has also been upgraded. SCOR is recognized as a standard process model for the various Supply Chain domains. Traditionally, the five management processes — Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, Return — are central to this model, which is now in its twelfth version. In the latest version, even more attention is paid to important developments such as the greening of the Supply Chain (sustainability), the further development of best practices around data and digitization, and also the changing role and skill set of Supply Chain professionals.

New course in procurement

In response to high demand, the ASCM is also announcing a completely new training in procurement, which is due to be released in the fourth quarter of 2021. This course will be called ‘SCPC: SC Procurement Certification’ and will cover the all the essential areas and practices in procurement.

In this course you will learn how to:
  • develop a strategic sourcing strategy;
  • establish effective procurement policies;
  • effectively score supplier capabilities and select optimal suppliers;
  • engage in more effective contract management negotiations;
  • trace the purchase order flow, from identification of requirements to purchase order close-out;
  • review supplier and internal procurement organization performance, using data and metrics;
  • engage in sustainable and ethical sourcing.
