The employers’ organisation SOM acts as a meeting point for social entrepreneurs and, being a knowledge centre, supports more than 500 organisations and federations in the following social profit sectors:

  • health,
  • welfare,
  • work and
  • housing.

SOM offers its members an extensive range of services, including advocacy, training, individual advice, joint purchasing formulas, etc.

Client requirement

The Board of Directors wanted a review of all aspects of the operation in order to consider changes in the range of services on offer or changes to the operation if necessary, to safeguard the optimal operation and profitability of the organisation.

Approach

  1. Preliminary intake with Steering Committee
  2. Start-up meeting with all employees.
  3. Individual & collective interviews with all employees.
  4. Thorough screening of supply and operation
  5. Synthesis of the findings.
  6. Improvement proposals (strategy, operation & organisation, culture, team roles, growth plan, etc.) and discussion with the steering committee and employees.
  7. Feedback to the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors and employees then asked us to supervise the team for a period of 5 months, in order to implement the improvement proposals in terms of service concept and organisation model, and to create a more effective team that can autonomously anticipate and implement changes.

Results

Whereas previously the group of employees did not have a common ambition and lacked open collaboration, the level of trust has increased and the team welcomes input from one another. This meant that the introduction of a new managing director passed without incident.
