Implementation of a data warehouse using SQL Server technology:
- Designing the architecture for the Bruges PCSW
- Planning and scoping the various iterations
- Ascertaining user requirements
- Looking at BICC strategies
- Testing user acceptance
- Guiding users through the rollout of the data warehouse across the organisation
The Bruges PCSW had a fulltime developer for the project, but the developer didn’t have sufficient relevant knowledge about implementing data warehouses. So element61 was asked to provide the necessary knowledge and expertise to ensure the project proceeded successfully (a combination of co-development and coaching).
Four iterations were defined:
- Personnel & HR
In the first iteration we extracted data from two different environments. First and foremost we extracted all information connected to "personnel" from the InfoHos system. Then we loaded personnel-related budgeting data.
- Time clock & residential care centre information
During the second iteration, automating the measurement of workload took priority. A workload meter shows how many care hours patients need. This result is compared with the number of available nurses and care providers. For this to work, personnel information must be gathered from a variety of sources, including the time clock and resident information.
- New Horizon - Cevi
During the third iteration we extracted information from Cevi’s New Horizon application. This consists of various modules, such as "Accounts" or "Day Care Centre". As for every iteration, a set of fixed reports were provided, such as "Number of meals invoiced each Monday" and "Number of debt mediation cases".
- Other information
The fourth and (for now) final iteration in terms of the uploading of new information domains, was the remaining PLANON application and information that was primarily located in Microsoft Excel files.
The implementation of the data warehouse and business intelligence using SQL Server technology with associated reports was completed with success, and to the satisfaction of the Bruges PCSW.
